Capo Choir

Capo (Cah-poh) is the preschool age program that provides a fun, engaging, and interactive choir experience for the preschool set of Lawrence! Children ages three years to five are invited to enter this wholly experiential music setting and learn:

• The way to stand for singing
• How to match pitches
• How to shape your mouth for singing
• How to pronounce words when you sing
• How to sing high and low notes
• How to sing in front of an audience
• How to sing fast and slow
• How to sing high notes and low notes
• How to sing loud and soft
• The best way to breathe for singing
• Lots of songs!

Capo is part of a national award-winning educational outreach program, recognized in 2012 by Chorus America. The students join with Cadenza and Crescendo (our senior citizen choir) once each semester, join the generations, and learn that singing is a lifelong pursuit.

We are excited to announce Ms. Lindsay Taylor as our Capo instructor. Ms. Taylor attended the University of Kansas and earned her Bachelor’s degree in music education with a voice emphasis in 2007. She is starting her 9th year as a music educator at Schwegler Elementary and she previously taught Kindermusik, an early childhood music and movement class, that combined singing with kinesthetic motions and imaginative play in a social environment.

Eight week sessions begin in September and January. Our classes will be held on Tuesdays at South Middle School between 4:45 -5:30 PM (Class A/Fall and Winter semesters), between 5:35 – 6:20 PM (Class B/Fall* and Winter semesters) and between 6:25 – 7:10 pm (Class C/Fall and Winter semesters). Tuition is $125 per session. Tuition scholarships are available.
